AEC offers small classes of no more than 12 students. Our students are teenagers and adults ages twelve years and older; the majority are professionals in the 18-35 age range. Students receive grammar instruction from Ukrainian teachers and practice speaking skills with native English speakers.

Pereira is 140 km North-West of Ibague, in the rolling hills of the coffee growing region. Including the surrounding towns, it has a population of around 1,000,000 and is quite modern. The climate is also very comfortable, more tropical with a slightly cooler daytime average temperature of 23.

Although Colombia does have some political and economic problems, safety is no more a concern than it would be in any large North American city. The people are very sociable and both theses cities are vibrant with activity and nightlife. We are looking for experienced CANADIAN teachers to start work in January 2012. A clear voice with a neutral “North American” accent is important. An outgoing, energetic person is a must. Spanish is not necessary.

SMR HR Group has been privileged to be chosen to manage part of a National Teacher Training initiative by the Malaysian Ministry of Education. This project started in January 2011 and SMR were allocated positions in five states of Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis.

Since January Mentors and Team Coordinators have been assigned to clusters scattered around these states. Each person has been allocated five schools where they are responsible for the ‘hands on’ training of teachers in years 1 to 3 in all of the schools. This is achieved by them team teaching, giving demonstration classes and conducting workshops for the teachers in the schools. The aim of this direct involvement is to help teachers utilize communicative methodology in their classrooms and to assist them with their own Professional Language Development.

Mentors are given a relative free hand to conduct specific needs analysis with the schools and then directly address issues in their clusters so that their help is both specific and relevant to the needs of the teachers we are serving.

This is a long term project which is contracted to finish in September 2013 and whilst we would have ideally preferred that all mentors who started in January would complete the full course of the contract, it has been inevitable that some have had to leave for various reasons such as family concerns, sickness and four who were dismissed because of unsuitability.

We have recently had a number of participants that have left the project and so have immediate vacancies for anyone who has the relevant qualifications, experience and pass interview. Requirements are:

1. Academic: A first degree + ESL Teaching qualifications (CELTA or equivalent)
(Candidates with DELTA or MA in related subject will have an advantage)
2. Experience: At least three years teaching experience of which most should be in teaching young children.

Teachers receive between US$1000 and $1200 per month (depending on qualifications, experience and performance)and in return are expected to teach 25 hours a week (110 a month max). We also provide medical insurance and a long-term visa. Teachers also get about three weeks paid leave every year.

Southern Cross is a small friendly language centre with delightful students of all ages and levels. Classes are small (max 10) and the teacher´s room is large and well resourced in order to encourage teachers to produce creative and enjoyable classes.

Southern Cross is an authorised University of Cambridge ESOL Examination Centre, as well as a registration centre for the British Council IELTS. In addition, we are one of the largest CELTA training centres in the Americas running eight courses every year.

Compensation:
Currently, teachers working full-time at the school are paid $10,000 pesos each month (this is net of all deductions), and the school will help you to find accommodations. The cost of living in Mexico is about 2/3 that of the US & Canada. American/Canadian teachers have found that this salary allows them to pay for utilities, food, gas, and other living expenses while working and living abroad.

There may be opportunities to earn additional wages based on your skill sets and the value they bring to the school (i.e. after-school coaching, tutoring, etc).

The school specializes in teaching English language to adults. Most of our classes are one on one at the school or on the premises of multinational companies. These companies are located in different parts of the city and teachers commute by public transport to different parts of the city every day for classes. Cost of transportation is paid by the school. A few of our classes have 3 to 5 students though.

Teachers usually have about 4 hours of classes spread throughout the day. There is no fixed daily schedule. Teachers should be comfortable with students at all levels, ages and sexes.
