Chumphon
We are looking for dynamic and energetic ESL professionals to join our team in Chumphon. The positions in Chumphon also start in early May. You will have a teaching assistant, comfortable working conditions and an air-conditioned teacher’s room in which to relax and plan. In the second school you will be working in an English program with highly motivated and bright students. It is a small and friendly school with very comfortable working conditions, a teacher’s assistant, teacher’s room and internet access.

Chaiya
2 More special individuals required. Chaiya is a deeply rural location but is very close to long secluded beaches. Don’t expect to see foreigners on the beach; it is more likely that you will see dolphins swimming off shore when you go there to relax. You will be working in a well run, foreigner friendly government school teaching in a privately funded English Program. Your classrooms are air conditioned with computer, TV and DVD. You will be seeing the same students on a regular basis so you can have a real impact on their development. There is a very comfortable teacher’s room in which you will have your own desk and wireless internet. The town of Suratthani is 50kms south of Chaiya, so if you want to get off to the Islands at the weekend the ferry isn’t far away. These positions will suit teachers who want to avoid the tourist traps. You will have a desire to spend the majority of your time surrounded by Thai people and Thai culture. You will be one of only two native speaking teachers working in the school and you will probably be the only foreigners in the immediate area. It will also help if you are able to ride a motorcycle because the school is located about 4 kilometres from the town. Again term starts in early May.

What AEC is looking for…
American English Center looks for teachers that go beyond the essentials of teaching conversational English, but also want to expose Ukrainians to and share their cultural perspectives with their students. AEC selects teachers based upon their potential to lead classes as well as their ability to fit into the faculty community.

American English Center trains its teachers with a 10 day intensive training program that includes classroom observation, mock teaching, guest teaching, and teaching philosophies. Teachers continue to improve their teaching schools through periodic seminars and classroom evaluation. Thus, there isn’t a need for teachers to hold any type of teaching certificates.

Requirements for teachers include:

TEACHING AT AMERICAN ENGLISH CENTER
AEC works on a 7-week semester system. AEC schools are open Sunday – Thursday. Weekday hours range from 4pm – 10pm and Sunday hours vary by location. School locations are closed on Friday and Saturday. During the academic year teachers receive a minimum of 26 student contact hours per week in the form of lessons and conversation groups.

Hours are usually in blocks without split shifts, although at times teaching in the corporate program is necessary.

The use of a structured program removes the need for teachers to spend out of classroom time creating syllabi and lesson plans. Teachers express their creativity within the framework of the structured lesson.

Teachers also do not check homework or grade exams; AEC has a lab assistants do this. Thus, there is minimal prep time for classes and contact time closely replicates work hours.

For their work teachers receive remuneration as follows:
~ GUARANTEED MINIMUM net of 11,210uah over a 7-week period (approximately $2385.11 usd based on an exchange rate of 4.7uah to $1) paid every two weeks during the academic year.

Saint Patrick General Information

• The school year begins in February and ends in December. Holidays include a week at Easter, three weeks in July in additional to various national holidays.

• Saint Patrick is a small private elementary school. It is situated outside Puntarenas on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

• A native English speaking teacher is responsible for the instruction of English, Science, and Geography. You will have groups with 1 to 4 students. At times, companies contract closed groups only for the themselves and they choose to include up to 8 in a group. Pay is at 80 to 100 MXP per hour (depending on experience and results) and so for one session of 1.5 hrs, you will be paid 120 to 150 MXP. Payday is on the 5th and the 25th day of each month in local currency. You will be observed and feedback given to you when you have your meeting with your coordinator. 80% of our teaching staff is foreigners and the others are native Mexicans who have lived abroad for many years.

All teachers hired at Inter-Act must agree and accept the possible hours of 7 to 10 am and 6:30 to 9:30 pm from Monday to Friday and Saturday morning classes when needed.

Competitive Package

Costs of living are such that you can enjoy a very comfortable lifestyle in Vietnam – most of our teachers eat out every night, and spend holidays travelling in Asia without working too hard to save.
• Salary: 1360 USD – 1680 USD per month, depending on qualifications and experience (tax is payable on a sliding scale, most teachers pay around 10-20%)
• Medical insurance allowance: up to 550 USD per year
• Flight allowance: up to 500 USD per year (paid at the end of contract)
• Settling in accommodation allowance: up to 150 USD
• Completion Bonus: 900 USD paid at the completion of a one year contract (NB Bonus is also taxable income)
• Re-signing Bonus: 500 USD paid for renewal of a full-time one year contract
• 20 [twenty] working days paid annual leave and an additional nine [nine] paid days off for national holidays.

Interesting range of teaching opportunities

YL/ Kindy / G.E./ IELTS / TOEFL preparation courses, plus Business English, English for Academic Purposes and specialised courses (e.g. Pronunciation), as we expand our program for corporate & public clients. Teachers are encouraged and expected to teach across a range of courses. We also run courses in other cities as part of our corporate program, and there are opportunities to be based in Danang or to spend time in one of the provincial cities or towns (for example Haiphong), to really get a feel for Vietnam – see our website for further information.

Timetable

240 hours per quarter – normally scheduled at 20-23 hours per week. Most Kindy and YL teaching hours are during the weekend, except during summer when classes are also run on weekdays. Most adult teaching hours are in the evening, although some corporate teaching is daytime. Classes run from 7.30am to 9.45pm Monday – Friday; 7.45 am – 8.15pm on Saturday and 7.45am – 6pm on Sunday. Split shifts are sometimes inevitable, though they are avoided where possible.

Support

The Academic team includes an Academic Manager, Academic Coordinators and/or Senior teachers plus support staff in each location. They are there to support you in both academic and personal matters and will help you settle into your new life in Vietnam.

The school does not provide accommodation, but can arrange a hotel (at a modest cost) for arrival. Please note that the contract also includes a settling in allowance of 150 USD to help with initial accommodation expenses. The school will offer help in finding longer term housing as well. You will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel.

Job requirements for all teaching positions

• Native English speaker
• BA or MA (NB this is essential for Work Permit requirements)
• CELTA / Trinity TESOL or equivalent
• At least one year’s experience or B in CELTA etc.
• Enthusiasm, energy and a strong sense of cultural awareness are essential.

Work Permit

All expatriate staff require a visa PLUS a work permit. Apollo applies for a business visa before the employee departs their current country of residence. All costs for visa and all costs for Work Permit documents incurred in Vietnam are covered by Apollo (receipts required). Work Permit costs incurred outside Vietnam, such as notarization of qualifications (for US citizens) and the criminal background check, are the employees’ responsibility. Employees will need to provide originals of documents (TEFL certification & university degree) for notarization in Vietnam. A medical check, done locally, (including blood test) is also required. Apollo will assist in getting this done and cover related costs.
