Gracias is a major tourist area of Honduras, having the tallest mountain in Honduras (Celaque), delicious Hot Springs, as well as being the root of the Lenca Civilization.

Minerva School has a total of 250 students, 15% of which are of limited resources and are sponsored by the school. The school has all grade levels from pre-school up to eleventh grade.

The open position is primarily teaching English to students in primary school, but the schedule includes environmental education, music, art, and physical education.

New Horizons School (CENH) is a small, private bilingual institution in the heart of Honduras. San Francisco de la Paz is a rural community about 45 minutes from Juticalpa, which is the capital of the department Olancho.

What we are looking for:

A responsible, professional individual that holds the best interests of the student first. We are seeking someone with experience studying or working in a developing country that will not have problems adjusting to the rural Honduran environment. The ideal candidate will have experience living abroad, a 4 year college degree and previous fluency in Spanish. The English classes at this point are about 50/50 English and Spanish. In addition to responsibilities as a teacher, we would like a candidate who will be able to help form a curriculum and use their skills to participate in projects outside of the classroom.

What we provide:

Airfare will be reimbursed via monthly installments added onto your paycheck. Your salary is commensurate with the standard local salary of 6,000 Lempira, which is about 315 dollars per month. We have found that this is more than enough to live on. CENH provides housing, where you will be living with 3 other volunteers. The house is in excellent condition and extremely safe. The town in general has been very welcoming to our presence.

It will be necessary to take at least one visa renewal trip to a surrounding country. This trip will be paid for and is a good opportunity to travel and experience the region on paid vacation.

After the rest of this contract is fulfilled, we are definitely interested in faculty that would like to stay on for the next year.
