The TED (Turkish acronym for Turkish Education Association) Foundation Schools are among the most prestigious private schools in Turkey. At the behest of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (the founder of modern Turkey), the TED Foundation was formed early in the Turkish Republic’s history in order to provide a comprehensive and modern education to Turkish children in the English language. Since that time, TED schools have been synonomous with success and excellence. A successful applicant will therefore, in addition to having a valuable work and learning experience, have the priviledge of being able to put TED College on their resume.
Our particular TED College is located in Alanya, a small yet vibrant city on the Mediterranean coast. Despite its size, Alanya is surprisingly cosmopolitan, being both a major tourist destination and home to sizeable European expatriot communities. In addition to its cultural diversity and warm Turkish hospitality, Alanya’s popularity is due also to its natural and historical attractions. While Alanya may be best known for its sandy and warm Mediterranean beaches, immediately to the north of the city (and visible from the city) are the mighty Toros Mountains, which are snow-capped throughout much of the year. These mountains provide great opportunities for all sorts of activities, from world-class mountain sports and hiking expeditions to easy and fun trips to real working mountain villages for tea and Turkish pancakes. And, historically speaking, Alanya and its surrounding areas have been home to many ancient cultures, from the ancient Greeks and Romans to the Seljuks and Ottomans. Because of this, the ruins of many ancient cities are just a short trip away from downtown Alanya.
