Elementary Teachers Needed In Mexico

Monday, June 23rd, 2008 |

The American School of Pachuca, a private, co-ed, institution offering instruction in grades K-9, is now actively seeking 2 qualified, dynamic and enthusiastic teachers to join our faculty for academis year 2008-2009, with a start date of August 11, 2008.

The school is located in the mountainous town of Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico, just over an hour from Mexico City and about 4 hours from the beaches of Veracruz. It is a clean, safe, mid-sized city with some 350,000 residents and all the amenities one needs to live a comfortable life. The city itself was a mining town founded nearly 500 years ago, and has a rich history. In fact, it is just 20 minutes from the hill top magical towns of Real del Monte and Huasca, where many teachers spend their weekend afternoons. A quick and easy trip into bustling Mexico City for the weekend is also a popular choice. The climate is temperate, never too hot nor terribly cold, and neither heat nor air conditioning is required. From Pachuca, one can travel by bus to the ancient Aztec pyramids in an hour, Cuernavaca or San Miguel de Allende in 5 hours, Guanajuato in 6 hours, and Guadalajara in 11 hours.

The school also has a rich history, founded nearly 90 years ago by the American Mining Company to provide blingual education to sons and daughters of mine employees. It became a private non profit some 60 years ago, when the mines stopped functioning. It now has some 900 students and is the only truly bilingual school in Hidalgo. With more than 40 foreign and 50 Mexican staff, a student-teacher ratio of 14 to 1, nice facilities with lots of open area, and a convenient location, it is among the best schools in Pachuca. It is also one of 17 member schools of the Association of American Schools of Mexico. Class sizes are small, with no more than 24 students per class, and teachers teach approximately 22 contact hours per week. The work day runs from 7:45 to 3:15 and there are are rarely any weekend hours (perhaps only at gradutaion!).

We seek two teachers with at minimum one year of teaching experience abroad. We prefer teachers with a degree in education, though we will consider those with other educational backgrounds. All teachers must have a B.A. or B.S. from an accredited university and those who do not have a teaching certificate in their country or a B.Ed. will be asked to enroll in a local M.Ed., for which the school will provide significante financial support. This is part of our requirements towards attaining international accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which will hold its accreditation visit to the school in April 2009.

Salaries range from 10,000 to 15,000 pesos monthly, with free private housing and medical coverage provided. We also provide $600 in flight assitance, and a contract completion bonus of $1000 USD at the end of the academic year.

To apply, please send your resume, a cover letter, and the names of three references (or reference letters if possible) to Curt Crossley, International Hiring Coordinator, at teach.at.asp@gmail.com by June 30, 2008. Hiring will be done on a rolling basis, so early applicants will receive first consideration.

Teachers Needed For School in Turkey

Thursday, April 10th, 2008 |

The TED (Turkish acronym for Turkish Education Association) Foundation Schools are among the most prestigious private schools in Turkey. At the behest of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (the founder of modern Turkey), the TED Foundation was formed early in the Turkish Republic’s history in order to provide a comprehensive and modern education to Turkish children in the English language. Since that time, TED schools have been synonomous with success and excellence. A successful applicant will therefore, in addition to having a valuable work and learning experience, have the priviledge of being able to put TED College on their resume.

Our particular TED College is located in Alanya, a small yet vibrant city on the Mediterranean coast. Despite its size, Alanya is surprisingly cosmopolitan, being both a major tourist destination and home to sizeable European expatriot communities. In addition to its cultural diversity and warm Turkish hospitality, Alanya’s popularity is due also to its natural and historical attractions. While Alanya may be best known for its sandy and warm Mediterranean beaches, immediately to the north of the city (and visible from the city) are the mighty Toros Mountains, which are snow-capped throughout much of the year. These mountains provide great opportunities for all sorts of activities, from world-class mountain sports and hiking expeditions to easy and fun trips to real working mountain villages for tea and Turkish pancakes. And, historically speaking, Alanya and its surrounding areas have been home to many ancient cultures, from the ancient Greeks and Romans to the Seljuks and Ottomans. Because of this, the ruins of many ancient cities are just a short trip away from downtown Alanya.

WE ARE SEEKING TEACHERS FOR THREE POSITIONS

1. NATIVE SPEAKERS of ENGLISH

We are seeking native speakers of English who are motivated, creative, and ready for a rewarding challenge to teach conversational English to grade school children for a two-month long summer course. In addition to being a native English speaker, it is also hoped that applicants will have some hobby, interest, or area of expertise which they will also be able to teach to the students. No knowledge of the Turkish language is required. Courses begin July 1st.

For inquiries and to send your resume, please email Mustafa at mgecit@tedalanya.k12.tr or call +90 505 581 7291 and ask for Mustafa GECIT, Chair, Foreign Language Department.

Summer Job Benefits
Our package includes the following:
–a competitive salary
–all housing expenses
–travel exepenses to Alanya, Turkey (including airline ticket)
–health care for the duration of the summer course
–visa costs
–free meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on school days
–transportation to and from school
–state of the art teaching facilities
– plenty of assistance and professional support to help you both acclimate to your new work environment and to improve your overall teaching skills
–a nice and friendly work environment
–a prestigious work experience to put on resume

2. KINDERGARTEN and GRADE SCHOOL TEACHERS

We are seeking native English speakers who have experience teaching either kindergarten or grade school (first through fifth grade), or who have received a university degree in education. No TEFL or other type of certification is required. Additionally, no knowledge of the Turkish language is required. Successful applicants will sign a one-year-contract that will be effective September 1st, 2008.

For inquiries and to send your resume, please email Mustafa at mgecit@tedalanya.k12.tr or call +90 505 581 7291 and ask for Mustafa GECIT, Chair, Foreign Language Department.

3. NATIVE SPEAKERS of ENGLISH

We are seeking native speakers of English who are motivated, creative, and ready for a rewarding challenge. In order to be considered, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (in any area of study) and be certified to teach English as a foreign language; however, no previous teaching experience is necessary.
