Teach Kindergarten in Thailand

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Sithammarat Suksa School, a 107 year old private school in Nakon Si Thammarat, Thailand, is looking for a responsible, motivated teacher to join our Kindergarten English Program Staff. ***The semester is opening May 12, 2008 and the position is to be filled immediately. Include your earliest potential staring date with your application***

-Now in its third year, the Kindergarten English Program has had a boom in enrollment and needs quality caring, professional, flexible, motivated teachers. Facilities are excellent, in a new building with air conditioning, internet in classrooms, many resources available. Each Kindergarten English Program class has one Thai and one Foreign homeroom teacher in the classroom with the children through the day. Both teachers should work together to support each other in their student’s education, so good communication skills are a must. Teachers must commit to a contract covering the length of the school year to build bonds with their students.

Sithammarat Suksa is a well-established school with over 5000 students Kindergarten through Grade 12. The English Program is now in its 8th year, and continuing to grow and improve in size, quality and reputation. We currently have a foreign staff of more than 20 from the US, Canada, South Africa, Australia and the UK (sorry, citizens of a non-native English speaking country need not apply regardless of English proficiency). Teachers from a native-English-speaking country with a Bachelors degree minimum are welcome to apply, but preference is given to TEFL/TESOL certification, foreign teaching experience, and home-country-licensed teachers.

Teachers are expected to carry out their duties to their best ability at all times. This includes making lesson plans, recording scores and monitoring student progress, as well as working productively as a member of our educational team.

Salary begins at 30,000 Thai baht per month, negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Sithammarat Suksa will refund the cost of incoming airfare after 90 days work. For teachers already in Thailand (a plus) an addition stipend will be added in lieu of the airfare. Other benefits include (but are not limited to): health coverage, a yearly contract completion bonus and raise, Thai lunch every school day, more than 6 weeks paid holidays per year (up to 12 weeks for renewing teachers), modern air-conditioned classrooms and offices, internet at your desk (if you bring a laptop), all classes under 30 students, a friendly and supportive environment, beautiful, tree-lined campus adjacent to a large city park.

Our city, Nakon Si Thammarat, is an ancient trading capital with most modern western conveniences: internet, satellite TV, pizza delivery. Renting a house can be done for about 10% of monthly salary, leaving plenty to experience local culture in our medium-sized, untouristed Thai city. Both beaches and mountains are within a 30 minute drive, and the famous tourist meccas of Samui, Ko Pa Ngan, Krabi and Phuket are a short drive away.

Do you want to live and work near some of the most stunning parts of Southern Thailand? Are you are already in the land of smiles? Right now we are recruiting teachers to start work in Suratthani, Chumphon, Lang Suan, Sawi and Nakhon Si Thammarat, in readiness for the new school year commencing in May 2008. Applicants must be able to arrive in Thailand during April to complete training and orientation.

We are also looking for part time teachers to start work immediately in the seaside town of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Suratthani
We are looking for dynamic, qualified and energetic native speakers to join experienced and well established team in Suratthani. The successful applicants will be teaching at one of our external schools, and in our Language Academy in the town. The successful applicants need to have high levels of energy and enthusiasm, and must be ready and able to teach at all levels. Knowledge of the TEFL methodology or other relevant ESL teaching techniques is essential. Applicants will need to be here during April to complete training and orientation.

Chumphon
We are looking for dynamic and energetic ESL professionals to join our team in Chumphon. The positions in Chumphon start in early May 2008. The successful applicants will need to be here in April in order to complete orientation training, and to get settled in. You will be working in one of two delightful schools. The first is a private Catholic school with a swimming pool and gym, which is available to our teachers. You will have a teaching assistant, comfortable working conditions and a teacher’s room in which to relax and plan. In the second school you will be working in an English program with highly motivated and bright students. It is a small and friendly school with very comfortable working conditions, a teacher’s assistant, teacher’s room and internet access.

Lang Suan
The positions in Lang Suan require some very special individuals. If you want to work in a deeply rural location, in a traditionally Thai environment, away from the tourist traps, then Lang Suan is the place for you. You will be working in a government school teaching 7 to 11 year old children who very rarely see foreigners. Expect to get loads of positive attention at school and walking around the town. Expect to say “hello” several thousand times a day. The facilities at the school are basic, but the children will make up for the fact you won’t have air-conditioning. You will have the opportunity to make a real impact on these children; they really want to learn English.

In your free time you can visit some beautiful beaches on the main land and also visit some amazing islands just off the coast of Lang Suan, including Koh Tao and Koh Samui.

Sawi
Just down the road from Lang Suan in another deeply rural location we require a very specific individual. We are looking for a British female, between 25 and 35 years old. You will be teaching 12 – 18 year olds the 4 skills with emphasis on speaking and listening. The school itself is in a beautiful setting, with wonderful views. You will be the only foreign teacher working in the school, so expect to get loads of positive attention. If you like the sound of this, and have all the skills and qualifications we are looking for, then please drop us a line including your resume and a recent photo.

Nakhon Si Thammarat

The successful applicant will have a sound grasp of the English Language, and have at least one year of teaching experience. You will be working in our Language Academy in the town of Suratthani. This is an exciting opportunity; the successful applicant will be responsible for developing and managing this course from the ground up.

General Information and Expectations for Applicants

We need team players that are prepared to share ideas and work closely together in a fun and creative environment. We need Teachers who can inject natural energy, and enthusiasm into our classrooms. Lessons should be fun, creative, and energetic. If you are ticking these boxes, we want to speak to you right now!

On arrival you will be put in a comfortable hotel near our offices in order for you to relax and acclimatize. You will receive orientation and ongoing training; you will also be given assistance finding somewhere suitable to live.

We are able to offer short term or long term contracts for both full time and part time positions.

Qualifications
All applicants must hold a 4 year bachelor degree in any field. This is required to enable us to produce a work permit. The most important qualification is your teaching certificate. All applicants should have a TEFL qualification, CELTA or any other relevant ESL qualification. Please bring all original certificates with you. They are required by the Ministry of Education during the visa and work permit application process.

We offer orientation and ongoing training to all our teachers. Part of your orientation training will be observing our teachers in local schools, or in one of our Language Academies. You will also be expected to teach classes prior to starting work. These classes will be observed and reviewed.

Police check
The rules are constantly changing here in Thailand. It is now necessary to have a police check in order to obtain a work visa. Please apply for one while you are still in your home country. It is also possible to obtain this document via the internet for a minimal fee. If you are in possession of all original Degree certificates the Police Check may not be required, but it will help during the visa application process.
