Colegio Americano de San Carlos (CASC) is one of Guaymas’ premier bilingual Catholic private schools (Spanish and English), with over 500 students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 12. CASC is is seeking a full-time, experienced/certified American or Canadian teacher to teach Kindergarten in English to Spanish speaking students.
Our ideal candidate will have, at minimum:
-a teacher’s degree (i.e. Bachelor’s degree in Education (some of our teachers also have their Masters in Education), and,
-the TEFL/TESOL or some other equivalent qualifications, and,
-teaching experience, either in the US/Canada, with school-aged students, or similar teaching experience abroad (i.e. China, Ukraine, Korea, etc.)
-familiarity with Montessori teaching methods would be an asset
Compensation:
Currently, teachers working full-time at the school are paid $8,000 pesos each month (this is net of all deductions), plus rental assistance of $2,000 pesos each month (the school will help you to find accommodation). Based on current exchange rates, this is the equivalent of approx. $925 USD. The cost of living in Mexico is about 2/3 that of the US & Canada. American/Canadian teachers have found that this salary allows them to pay for utilities, food, gas, and other living expenses while working and living abroad. There may be opportunities to earn additional wages based on your skill sets and the value they bring to the school (i.e. after-school coaching, tutoring, etc).
Additional Benefits:
*In order to work in Mexico, you are required to have an FM-3 (Work Visa). Colegio Americano will help you to secure an FM-3 at the school’s expense.
*Bus travel to Colegio Americano (if you ride the school’s bus) is free for teachers.
*Spanish language classes (held at our language learning centre, Agora, in Guaymas) are free.
*Use of the school’s facilities and extra-curricular classes are free (i.e. swimming pool, tennis courts, yoga, pilates, taekwondo, etc)
*If you have children, the school’s tuition costs for them are free, and they receive a discount on extra-curricular activities. However, uniforms, books, costume for school plays, etc. are at the teacher’s expense.
Our Location:
The 6.2 acre campus is located in Miramar, an upscale district in the city of Guaymas (population of 130,000), approx. 20 km south of the lovely Mexican resort community of San Carlos. Guaymas and San Carlos are situated on the Sea of Cortez (4 hours south of the US-Arizona State border) and are known for their beautiful sand beaches, spectacular diving and snorkeling, kayaking, and offshore fishing.
