07/21/2008 by jack

CUENCA, ECUADOR / CEDEI SCHOOL CEDEI
School is seeking native English speakers form its international teaching staff for the 2008-2009 academic year. CEDEI School is located in Cuenca, Ecuador. Cuenca is a small colonial city in the Andes Mountains.
SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
The educational philosophy of the school is based on the multiple intelligences of Howard Gardner: language, math and logic, spatial vision, kinesthetics, music, nature, and interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships. CEDEI School teaches its students about the world, its cultures, traditions, festivals, foods, dress, and traditional stories with the intention of giving each child a sense of belonging to the human race.
SCHOOL STRUCTURE
Our school opened in September 2003. In the 2008 ñ 2009 school year, the school will include an early stimulation class (1- and 2-year-olds), preschool classrooms (3- and 4-year-olds), two ®primero de basica® classes (5- and 6- year olds, equivalent of kindergarten), a segundo de basica class (6- and 7- year olds, first grade), a ìtercero de b·sicaî (7- and 8-year-olds, second grade) , a ìcuarto de b·sicaî (8- and 9-year-olds, third grade), and a ìquinto de b·sicaî (9 and 10 year olds, fourth grade). One grade level is added each year. Each classroom has a Spanish-speaking Ecuadorian teacher and an English-speaking international teacher. The international teachers are expected to teach all content in English and speak to the children in English at all times. Children learn English from native speakers at the same time as they acquire their native language of Spanish. Each member of the international staff is responsible for teaching an extra subject area to other classes of the school. These extra areas are: computer science, art, corporal expression, science and library.
INTERNATIONAL TEAM PURPOSE
Besides being immersed in an English speaking environment, from a very young age, the children will be exposed to a variety of cultures. With the presence of international teachers of different religious, social, and educational backgrounds, our hope is that these children will experience a unique environment. In the future, our students will learn to constructively criticize and propose alternatives to political, social, economic, artistic, and cultural problems.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL STAFF
We are currently seeking native English speakers to form our international staff for the 2008-2009 school year. We are seeking people with an education background and/or experience working with children ages 1-10. Spanish ability is helpful but is not required. The international teachers for this school year are asked to commit to working from August 2008 to end of July 2009, and work roughly from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The compensation will include free Spanish classes in the afternoon, free salsa dance classes, free internet access, and a monthly stipend of $296 for teachers of preschool and kindergarten, and $310 for teachers of first through fourth grade. Working at CEDEI School is an excellent opportunity to travel abroad, gain teaching experience, and learn Spanish.
We hope this general information has given you a better idea of how our school works and will assist you in deciding if CEDEI is an organization that you would like to support. If you have any further questions please contact us at englishcoord@cedei.org.
To apply for a position, please send a current resume and cover letter detailing your experiences teaching or working with young children to englishcoord@cedei.org.
